Description
SSH server private keys, files that match the /etc/ssh/*_key
glob, must be
group-owned by ssh_keys
group.
Rationale
If an unauthorized user obtains the private SSH host key file, the host could be impersonated.
Shell script
The following script can be run on the host to remediate the issue.
#!/bin/bash
# Remediation is applicable only in certain platforms
if [ ! -f /.dockerenv ] && [ ! -f /run/.containerenv ]; then
find /etc/ssh/ -maxdepth 1 -type f ! -group ssh_keys -regex '^.*_key$' -exec chgrp ssh_keys {} \;
else
>&2 echo 'Remediation is not applicable, nothing was done'
fi
Ansible playbook
